Tables MD3

Edit Alternative MD3

In the condition of a table are cells named alternatives. They relate to each other in a condition group. Their contents correspond to the domain of the variable in the subject. The condition group must "cover" the entire domain. We call this exhaustiveness.

The values in the condition group are not allowed to be the same, or to overlap each other. We call this exclusiveness.

You can double-click the cell to type correct content in an Edit Cell Window. But to ensure correct input you can use context menu items:

  • Insert domain element
  • Insert domain elements

Right-click a cell, move the mouse pointer to Insert domain element. At the right is a submenu with the allowed domain elements, the ones not yet present in another alternative cell. Click the desired domain element. This function is for quick filling with single domain elements.

The second item Insert domain elements (plural) is suited to edit more complexity. On clicking it shows a window with

  • a list of available domain elements
  • a choice for OR or AND by radio buttons
  • buttons Cancel and Insert

AND can only be chosen if the variable has property Allow multiple values. We say: the variable is multi-valued. (Must be fixed.)

OR is possible with all types of variable.

You can select more domain elements. Hold down the command-key (Mac) or control-key (Windows) and click some. Click button Insert. Now the cell holds an expression like these:

banana AND peach AND pineapple

yes OR maybe OR hardly
